Sports Supplements - What I Am Using

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

I am using 4 different EAS products during the challenge this year.

They are:

  • Meal Replacement Drinks
  • Protein Shakes
  • Weight Loss Tablets
  • Creatine Supplements

We’ve discussed the weight loss tablets. Keep your eyes peeled over the next few weeks for exactly which of the other ones I am using over this intensive 12 week period.

    Ouch - NOW I Can Feel It… ;-)

    Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

    Just a brief note.

After “upping the bar” as I said last night my back and chest are really aching today.

    That’ll teach me!

Best run yet though this morning. I ran and ran! Went for half an hour rather than 20 minutes today and went down a road I’ve never been down before. There were some stunning, historic houses down there. Must take my camera and upload some snaps sometime as it’s such a great place to jog.

Seeing The Results - And Upping The Bar

      Tuesday, May 30th, 2006

Wow I just finished my best upper body workout yet. I feel amazing!

I am starting to get a little frustrated at my lack of progress on the muscle front though my weight loss is doing nicely.

So I figured maybe I need to up the ante a little.

So tonight I increased the weights I am using. I increased my flyes weights to 13kg per arm tonight - and it nearly killed me! However, I coped (just about) and am now buzzing feeling like I’ve made a real achievement (that’s a massive improvement from the 8kg I started the challange on - so long may it continue.

I’m still shaking from the effort 15 minutes after I finished but I feel fab!

Another interesting experience today was I went to put on a pair of trousers that fitted me a year or so ago but have been feeling *very* tight lately. They were the sort of trousers you stretch up high to spread your belly out before trying to do them up (and ensuring I use a belt to help “spread the weight”!).

I put them on this morning and not only did they fit without any problems, I could get my thumbs in the waistband too without any difficulty.

      It’s working!

Can’t wait for my week 3 update - I have a feeling it’s going to be a good one!

Off for a jog again tomorrow morning. I’m genuinely still feeling so motivated and am quite impressing myself with managing to fit my exercise around my job, business and just a little fun here and there.

I’ve got through almost a whole 1.8kg Phosphagen HP since the start of the challange - I’ll make a post soon about the supplement and explain what it does (as far as I understand!).

I’ve got another one on order. Hope it turns up soon…

        Bank Holiday Monday

        Monday, May 29th, 2006

Well it’s a Bank Holiday here in the UK today - so no work!

As my “week” for this challange is now running from Sunday to Friday (Saturday is my “free” day) I’m pretty impressed I’ve already been for two jogs this week already!

I’m looking at an upper body workout tomorrow (Tuesday), a jog Thursday and upper body Friday. Hopefully I’ll get a lower body workout done on Wednesday but I’m meant to be out for the evening so we’ll have to wait and see.

Anyway, the real reason for this post is I have just been surfing around for motivation and found an amazing transformation.

          2nd Weekly Update

          Saturday, May 27th, 2006

Hi and welcome to the end of my second week of the challenge.

Appreciate that this “week” has only been 5 days not 7 as I’m “reworking” how I’m going to do my weekly updates. From now on I’ll take the pictures and measurements on a Friday morning before work, then upload the weekly update on a Saturday night.

But we’ve still had some changes.

Starting next time I plan to add not just the change since last week but also since the beginning of the challenge.

Things seem to be going pretty well - I’m managing to stay focused on the end result and am enjoying my workouts.

And despite some insanely busy days this week (Friday started at 7am and didn’t finish till 9pm!) I’ve managed to keep up, taking 2 jogs (still difficult with all the rain) and doing plenty of weights. Still concerned about my skinny little arms though ;-)

I didn’t lose as much weight as last week which is a little disappointing but maybe I’ve just been putting on muscle too that has reduced the apparent weight loss because I’ve increased the weights I’m using and many of the Body For Life challangers I’ve seen actually increased rather than decreased their weight because of this, so maybe I should focus on the photos instead.

My scales aren’t advanced enough to tell about % fat and so on, but the pictures won’t lie!

OK, firstly the table of statistics:

Category This Week Last Week Change
          Weight (kg) 72.8 73.1 -0.3
          Weigh (Stone) 11st 6.5 11st 7.25 -0.75
          Stomach 35.5″  37″  -1.5″
          Waist 35″  35.5 -0.5″
          Chest 39.5″  39.5″ No change
          Biceps 12.75″  12.75″ No change
          Thighs 22.75″  22.75″ No change

Now the photos with, as usual, this weeks photos on the left (or above, depending on how the blog displays them) with last week on the right (or below) for each angle:

          Week 2 Front Front

          Week 2 SideWeek 2 Side

          BackBack

To my eyes the back view actually looks worse, but the side view (again) shows reasonable progress while the front shows some very slight progress - once again slightly smaller “love handles”.

          That’s it for this update!

          Thanks for reading :-)
