Week 6 Update - The Half Way Mark

Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Well here we are with the week 6 update - though please read the post below to understand that this isn’t strictly one week’s improvement. It’s about 6 weeks of half-heartedly following the plan so feel free to draw your own conclusions.

Please remember I haven’t been out jogging - I have just been consistently eating healthily and have been doing some weights from time to time (but not as regularly as previously).

Please ensure you do read the post below so you understand what has been going on.

Anyway, results time.

And I’ve got to say, the results have been nothing short of amazing and helps to show just how much a healthy diet and some moderate exercise can do for you.

The table below says it all. No real muscle growth to speak of but an amazing 5.3kg lost in that space of time and 2″ of fat lost off my stomach! Wow!

I knew the results would be pretty good - I just didn’t know how good.

You see, everyone keeps commenting how much weight I’m losing - and it’s getting to such a level now that none of my clothes fit me.

Trousers which were once on the tight side I can now barely keep up! They hang on my hip bones and if I forget and go out without a belt on (as I would before the challenge) I have to keep my hands in my pockets or my trousers start to slowly inch their way towards the ground. Quite shocking for everyone involved :-)

So since starting the challenge a few months ago I’ve now lost just under 10kg (1.5 stone) and 5.5″ off my stomach! That’s amazing!

Infact, people are starting to worry that I’m losing “too much weight” and that I shouldn’t lose any more.

The fact is, I still need to bulk up those puny arms, yes, but I need to lose a bit more fat so the old stomach muscles show through. They’re feeling firmer every day but *still* aren’t quite visible. So more progress needed, but great results so far.

I’m a happy camper :-)

OK the table of results contrasting figures this week with the last update I did…

Category This Week Last Week Change
Weight (kg) 65.4 70.7 -5.3kg !!!
Weigh (Stone) 10st 4 11st 0 -10lbs !!!
Stomach 31.5″ 33.5″  -2″ !!!
Waist 33.5″ 34″ -0.5″
Chest 37″ 37″ No change
Biceps 12.75″  12.75″ No change
Thighs 22.5″  22.5″ No change

Now for the pictures with, as always, the most recent picture on the left or above for each angle (depending on how my blog software decides to render them) and the older pictures from the last update on the right (or below).

It’s time to play “spot the difference” again folks…

    No Nutrtional Diet Supplements

    Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Over the last 6 weeks I have either run out of all my supplements or stopped using them so please be aware of this change at this point in the challenge.

Making the assumption I’m half way through now after my injuries and sickness please be aware that for the foreseeable future I will be operating without any of the supplements I’ve been discussing.

It should (a) save me some pennies - those supplements were really starting to add up fast! and (b) should prove to be very interesting to see if there are any changes in the speed of the changes I’m making.

So in essence the 12 week plan will be split into two halves - the first taking plenty of supplements, the secon without any apart from a sensible diet.

Another change over the last few weeks is I’m not planning a regular “free meal” as I did before on a Saturday but instead am just eating healthy food at all times and then when the odd situation arises (a meal out, evening at the bar etc.) I go for it so long as I feel good about how I’ve eaten recently.

    If I don’t I make a polite excuse.

This extra “flexibility” in my diet seems to have added an extra level to my eating patterns and is making them even easier to stick to on a daily basis. Infact my diet now feels “natural” and “regular”. I don’t have to put any effort or thought into what I’m going to eat any more - I have adopted a new habit and it’s having great benefits.

    Update coming soon…

      In Sickness And In Health

      Saturday, August 12th, 2006

Well it’s now been around 6 weeks since I posted properly to this blog so I think it’s high time I explain (a) where I’ve been (especially after all the emails and comments posted asking if I’m OK!) and then (b) we’ll get straight back into “normal service as usual”.

I mentioned previously that work was eating up far more of my time than I would have liked and whilst that has since calmed down - there have been other factors to my lack of posting here…

Unfortunately I got myself another nasty sprain to my ankle which took a good month to recover from and resulted in me limping around for weeks on end at work.

Just when I’d got over that, I came down with a nasty virus that zapped me of all my energy for a few weeks.

Last week I tried to go out for a jog but only got a matter of a mile or two from home before I had to sit down and rest for 15 minutes. I felt rotten and ended up walking home with my tail between my legs.

Whilst I’m improving all the time, 6 weeks without jogging means I’m pretty-much starting again at square one with regards to the running.

On the upside I have managed to keep up with my healthy diet during the period of enforced rest, and have done my weights from time to time (though not as regularly as before) so I have still been making improvements over the last few weeks - just not quite as quickly as before.

So I’m going to “wipe” the last 6 weeks or so from the journal and assume that I’m back in Week 6 now.

      Half way there.

It’s not exact because as I say I have been eating properly so I will have lost a little more weight but I haven’t been going at it with the intensity I did when I was doing the Body For Life plan properly.

So keep your eyes peeled - I’m planning a Weekly Update within the next hour or so, then hopefully back to regular posting as I get jogging this coming week.

      Please keep coming back!
