Wow, I really must get posting here more often. I’ll make that one of my New Year’s resolutions for 2007.
For all my loyal readers I just wanted to issue an update for the end of the year to let you know what is going on at the moment.
I have finally gotten round to joining the gym and have been “easing” into going on a regular basis.
I have always had a fear for some reason of gyms. Of being the most out of shape person there. Visions of Arnie-type’s there with bulging muscles and the embarrasment of being the only muscle-free, overweight person there.
But as the weather has got colder and my requirements have gone up, it has become necessary to either ditch this experiment altogether or face my fear.
So I faced it, and I’m glad I did.
It turns out only a handful of people I see at the gym look what I would call “good”.
There are an aweful lot of “average” looking people (I put myself in that group too) and also a lot of people with less fitness and/or worse physiques than me there so I don’t feel out of place though I think
that it has helped with all the weight I lost over the summer.
So I don’t feel out of place, which is nice.
I have been disciplining myself to get up at 6am every weekday to down the gym and have been keeping up with my cardio plans admirably.
20 minutes of intense exercise each morning has been giving me a real boost before work each day.
Furthermore, whilst I have continued my healthy diet right through, and so managed to maintain my weight without effort, this extra exercise is helping me shed more pounds.
It’s taking a little while to get used to all the new weights machines though so I am regarding the first week of January as the “proper start” of the next phase in this project.
Over Christmas I won’t be “cutting loose” and overdoing it on food or alcohol. Sure, I’ll allow myself a few treats but I’ll still be thinking in terms of every extra calorie I consume is
more time required in the gym and longer until I get myself into the shape that I want.
So I should be eased in within the next week to ten days, then the first week of 2007 everything kicks off again at full speed rather than the slightly more leisurely speed I’ve been moving at over the past few months.
Geez, I’m excited about New Year, and all the new opportunities it brings
