In a way, people like me - the average jos with a few pounds to lose who can hide it by dressing correctly - have it easy.

It’s the people who are massively overweight - some might say obese - that I feel for.

My first thought is always how somebody got to being that size - what happened? I would have thought “Wow, I need to start losing weight” as soon as my usual pants stopped fitting.

No matter - I am not knocking you at all.

The point is this - it takes a lot of balls to get exercising when you’re obese.

I worked out for almost a year at home and in the countryside before I dared to enter a gym so if you’re one of the those soldiers who just thinks “I don’t care what people think - if I don’t exercise I’m *never* going to lose this weight”.

Kudos to you.

And also kudos for not letting being obese turn into an excuse not to get into shape. There are any number of excuses but you chose the hard route.

Apart from the obvious surgical options, the only real way to lose weight (and keep it off) is through blood, sweat and tears.

And when you start knocking down goals week after week, month after month, think how great you’ll feel (in both ways).
